Hello you gorgeous people, how are you! Its been a great week slowly adjusting to College life yet again which has been good. Last night I saw Anchorman 2 with a friend of mine so I'm going to talk about it for you guys.
This films see's the team break up and live their own lives until Ron is confronted by an opportunity to rule the news again... 24 hours a day. He assembles the team but fame slowly gets to his head and the world around him crumbles.
that basically is the whole film summed up in 45 words, the Anchorman films always present a simple plot which is easy to follow and supported by a hysterically funny script executed brilliantly by the entire cast but my particular favourite is of course Brick (Steve Carell) who is in the film a lot more which is fantastic news and even better... he finds a girl and lets just say he can be quite protective over her.
I was quite worried because you know how sequels are, a lot of them don't live up to the first however I believe this one may have done for a wide range of reasons, reasons that I will explain.
1) cameos- I will not say why or what but I will mention that: Will Smith, John C Reilly, Liam Neeson, Marrion Cotillard, Jim Carrey, Vince Vaughn, Kirsten Dunst and Harrison Ford make an appearance in this film, it may also be quite familiar.
2) Brick- everyone loves Brick and in this film you get a lot more of Brick, he gets a girlfriend, he yells weird things, he dies but lives and he eats butter. What's not to love? he is a very funny character and definitely one of the highlights which was shown in the trailer is of course the green screen, its funny and just an enjoyable scene, another great thing about Brick is that he always wields the best weapon.
3) Sharks- Ron and his son "adopt" a shark... thats all I can say
4) Giant news battle- In the first film we saw Ron face off against his rivals using grenades, swords, bats and other weapons but in this we get mortars, a Minotaur, a werewolf and a jet. It makes no sense what so ever however its a fun scene, its not meant to be serious so thats why this over the top battle works so well with mythical creatures, futuristic guns and ghosts and honestly the CGI for it is pretty impressive, there is a cool explosion however I miss the removal of limbs from the first one which was clearly fake but very funny, this film was never meant to be serious its just a bit of fun and I was reading some reviews and fair enough if it doesn't make you laugh but this isn't a thriller, you don't need to be analytical with it just enjoy it (try to)
I could go on for quite a bit but I wanted to keep it sweet and simple, I do recommend this film, go with a few friends get some popcorn and have a laugh, simple as that. Of course this film is going to have its problems I noticed a few... did I care? of course not the comedy was more important and most of it made me laugh, mission accomplished. There were some brilliant scenes in there and funny moments with some racial humour, offensive? maybe, funny? admittedly yes. I really enjoyed this film, it was nice just to get out and have fun and this film certainly did the job however I'm still unsure whether the first is better I'd go with a tie because there are some bits that are just genius but they may not compare to "I love lamp" or the weightlifting scene but then again seeing Ron get kicked in the nuts and crying made me cry as well (in laughter obviously) I think what's great is that not only are the original cast members back together but they are all very funny, I love Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell because I find them naturally funny Will has the ability to deliver some great lines and just make them really funny it may be the brilliant timing, I have no idea how he does it and I want to known! the same applies for Steve everything he said in this film was funny because he was so straight face and crazy it made you question why it was so funny, why was Brick eating butter funny, no idea! why was Bricks first interaction with a girl funny well thats simple, it's because it was weird and strange but everyone loved it when he touched her on the shoulder and ran away it; it was simple yet brilliant and it was things like that that made the film great to watch, it made it a fun experience and I have no doubt that I will see it again.
Baxter!! I missed out Baxter, unfortunately he doesn't wear his pyjamas in this one or his brace but like the previous film he does rescue Ron however he isn't in it that much nor did he get dropped kicked off a bridge honestly it would have been really funny to have seen Jack Black in it again, it's not necessary but it would have been quite good and it may have prompted another battle, Ron gets revenge!
I'd give the film a nice 8, it was a brilliant comedy, it made me laugh a lot but there were things missing and things I wish they done but overall it was great, really enjoyable and entertaining especially the overwhelming amount of awesome cameos that I knew nothing about and honestly its just a ridiculous film that couldn't be pulled off by any other group of cast members other than Will and the team, I don't think his character or humour could be bettered by another comedian and I believe that's what makes Will very special in respects to his films like Step Brothers and this, the comedy is always different however its always ridiculous and unfortunately for Will Ferrell I think he's one of those actors, you either hate him or love him and I think he's brilliant, there is a sketch on funny or die which is brilliant- its a great site in which celebrities take part in mini sketches and the public vote to determine whether it's funny or not so seriously check it out and go and see this film if you loved the first one!!!
I hope you guys enjoyed reading today, I've just come up with an awesome idea for a post so that will definitely be next and what I'm going to do is make it so I post at least twice a week unless I have more ideas and at the moment I have like 5 lined up so I better get thinking.
