Hello, welcome to the year 2014! I hope you all had a good night and did you remember your resolution?... Mines to eat more chocolate, does that count?
anyway, today is based on the newest assassins creed game, Black flag which is based on the era in which pirates ruled the seas, I haven't even got half way through but i thought it would be nice to talk about what I've seen and it was a suggestion from a friend (thank you)
your wish is my command!
I think I've covered enough to get a good post out of it, so today i will talk about the characters, the new scenery, the new unique style outside and missions.
so enjoy!
Assassins Creed 4 is based on the infamous pirate Edward Kenway, Father to Haytham and Grandfather to Connor, he sets out to become rich and famous so he can live a life of luxury and peace with his wife but events draw him to the assassins creed. That is the initial plot but obviously there is a lot more both in the Animus and outside such as assassination contracts, fleet missions and the over powering number of collectables scattered around the map.
The most interesting thing about this game that makes it so different and unique is the present world outside the animus, in this present day reality Assassin creed games exist and the unknown character you control is working at Abstergo to make a film based on Edward, so essentially you are working at a games company to produce a game/movie and its great because there are posters of the game hanging up and cases of the previous games, I found an Assassins creed 3 cases which was brilliant. That introduced a new element to the game which made it feel like your playing a completely different game and as you go along you meet new people and uncover secrets such as the aftermath of Desmond's death and I'm hoping for something based on Juno, maybe a file or even an appearance towards the end.
I just thought I would point out I have only completed 27% of the game which doesnt look a lot but I think its enough to create a blog post.
This game is a lot better compared to AC3 which I still enjoyed despite its slow start but this one goes right into the action, there's no messing around at all which allowed me to get use to the game a lot quicker and familiarise myself with the controls whereas in AC3 you spent a lot of time doing chores for an old man which became very tedious.
Edward Kenway is awesome in this, he's witty and he is a brilliant character both visually and characteristically with a past that slowly unravels as you progress, you learn a lot about him and the fact that he wants a purpose in life to live care free and securely so he doesn't have to worry and that sets out the foundation of the game, he's goes to sea to make money and you could say he becomes a bit greedy when he impersonates an Assassin and thats really where the game starts, you help the enemy for greed and then you work against them along with James Kidd who may surprise you a few times within the game, I certainly have my suspicions but I won't say anything. Visually he looks awesome, he looks threatening and he looks like a great pirate which is what I was more excited about, pirates are great so that intrigued me immediately but he is a kick ass pirate, he has the abilities of an amazing assassins and most importantly he can carry multiple guns which introduces a new chain of attacks in which you can simultaneously execute multiple targets, at the moment I only have 2 but I know that you can have more.
How does it differ to AC3?
well the combat is certainly different and I haven't explored all the weapons yet and I have recently been introduced to the wonderful blowpipe which is awesome when you are taking multiple enemies down in stealth mode, you can either put them to sleep for a certain amount of time or make them attack their own team mates like a wild animal, I am looking forward to buying and using a lot more of the cutlasses and pistols but honestly I'm going to miss the tomahawk however wielding 2 swords has topped the tomahawk, it allows you to carry out some brilliant finishing moves and it just makes you look bad ass! walking around Havana carrying 2 swords and asking for trouble.
The scenery is definitely different because your in the Caribbean and the background and general effects are stunning especially with the rapid change of weather and the newly introduced water spouts. they do keep elements introduced in AC3 such as free running along trees which is very useful in this game, more so than AC3. I recently completed a mission in which I had to silently take out assassins without being caught but I could not kill... that doesnt seem right!... anyway the scenery became very useful because these idiot "assassins" don't know how to look up so it allowed me to scale across the map without drawing attention until that guy with the gun spotted me.
It may not be different but I found the use of a ship quite useless in AC3, I just didn't use it all and even when I did I didn't enjoy but I love it now and I think that may be because of the intense fights that you encounter and the effects of the sea and weather which sometimes creates a challenge as your forcing you ship through strong winds and powerful waves or even avoiding water spouts which is annoying when there are multiple ones chasing you but they look great that at one point I decided to steer into one. another thing I'm really enjoying is the script and the unique appearance of the variety of characters. The script is a lot of fun, it's definitely believable and has made me laugh a few times but the singing of the crew mates top the script because they actually sound ok whilst your sailing in the open ocean, I imagined croaky drunk crew members failing to sing well but instead I got amazing shanties sung brilliantly that exceeded my ability to sing (thats not difficult)
At the moment I'm really enjoying the game because there are loads of new elements which give it a new feel to it such as fishing, I killed a killer whale and felt bad, a new thing that I like is Edwards fleet which is similar to sending your fellow assassins on missions but this time you send ships that you gain by plundering other ships and sending that damaged wreck to your fleet so I presume you can eventually send the Man of War to the fleet once I upgrade the Jackdaw and have the courage to take one on, I was chased by one which was not fun, it was huge, fast and had too many cannons (plus mortars!)
The missions are great and it involves a lot of interaction to either get to the mission or complete it but one thing that has annoyed me slightly which should be seen as a positive thing is the amount of islands that you can go to, there are so many but then again that means that you won't complete the game in any rush so the mini objects and collectables mean that I can do a lot more and experience different types of backgrounds such as a jungle type place infested with crocodiles or a tranquil city ran by the enemy.
I cannot wait to progress and unlock more of the map and play more of the fun missions, I'm actually going to play it right now after this, so far I would recommend it unless it gets crap towards the end which I doubt with happen so get up and get it! become the pirate you've always wanted to be and control the sea with your crew!
thanks for reading, just realised it's my first post of the year! thats pretty cool
whilst I am enjoying the pirating ways I hope you have a good start to the new year!
Until Next time
