welcome to the world of unemployment!
anyway! I've made up a few categories and am going to allocate a few films to each, thought I'd give it a whirl plus its a great excuse to watch new trailers and avoid revision. This will only include films from now to September.
Highest Grossing
Transformers Age of Extinction- No matter how many fan boys complain... they will still go and see it, considering all 3 are some of the highest grossing films EVER its safe to say that this could be on there, it may not beat Transformers 3 at 5th place though.
Godzilla- An american version of Godzilla hasn't been in cinema since 1998... we have high expectation and with what I've seen its going to blow every incarnation of Godzilla out of the water; It will be epic! and it will make so much money worldwide because of its fan base (like TF4)
X-men Days of future past- This is potentially one of the greatest "get togethers" since the Avengers, we have the old cast and the new cast... Legendary! I really hope this grosses a lot because so far, it deserves it. Its also incorporating one of the most well known and exciting comic book stories featuring the X-men, this is no ordinary X-men film, there is something about it that is going to draw in all you Marvel fans... me included!
Most interesting plot
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes- we haven't had a lot of trailers so its pretty difficult to predict what's going on and I think they are going to keep a lot of it as secretive as they can. Already we have a lot of interesting developments such as the demise of man kind, the evolution of the apes and then this idea of war. What the hell is going to happen!
X-men Days of Future Past- Come on! its time travel! of course its going to be interesting. As well as that there are also a few things to look out for- Wolverine gets his adamantium claws back... how! its just going to be a very intriguing film that could be a bit confusing with the timeline.
Edge of Tomorrow- There's something about this film that just seems really cool, the actual idea of reliving the same moment to perfect it is pretty awesome so I don't think I need to say much more other than... Tom Cruise is in it.

Best action
Transformers Age of Extinction- Again, no matter how much we complain about the characters or the plot the action itself will be epic! its one thing Michael Bay can do very very well plus... there are going to be huge metal dinosaurs running around so yes! the action is going to be epic, flawless CGI also helps.
Godzilla- Its a 300ft monster vs another one, in a giant city! its obvious that we are going to see some awesome action as well as CGI, we're going to see falling buildings, explosions and flying jets! this is going to be the blockbuster of the summer!
Expendables 3- This set of film just consists of over the top explosions and big guns, even if the plot is flawed the action will be fun and very brutal especially if Statham is running around with his knives. The thing is with the Expendables... its like playing Call of Duty, you could have a 4 man squad against 20 guys, you don't need cover only a grenade launcher and a throwing knife; this is what that film will do and the last 2 have done it brilliantly.

Potentially bad films
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- With this franchise it could go disastrously wrong very quickly and easily, the designs look intriguing but I'm genuinely worried about the overall outcome concerning the plot and the cast. Plus the actual origin story seems a bit fuzzy at the moment... only time will tell but it could be complete s**t.
How to Train your Dragon 2- As much as I loved the first one I'm not confident a second one will work. The reason the first worked so perfectly is because it revolved around this sweet friendship between a dragon and a person and thats not quite there any more. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it will be fine I just think it has a lot of pressure riding on it and I just generally believe it won't be as powerful.
One million ways to die in the west- Seth MacFarlane is very good at comedy clearly shown in Ted however Comedies in general are just very difficult to make because of peoples sense of humour, Seth relies on slap stick humour and offensive jokes which are sometimes great, I just don't think he can pull the same trick again, I also feel that the vibe may be very repetitive. What does give me hope is that the cast is pretty awesome! Charlize Theron, Neil Patrick Harris, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried.

Best Cast
X-men Days of future Past- I don't need to say much other than the entire cast is phenomenal! we have some of the original cast who haven't been seen since X-men Last Stand and the newly introduced past version which were awesome. Michael Fassbender, Ian Mckellen, James Mcavoy, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage and sooo many more. It's looking very good! we'll get to see these characters interact with each other which will deliver an interesting contrast which is just going to be amazing.
Godzilla- Bryan Cranston...
Expendables 3- This film involves some of the best and most well known action stars like Stallone, Statham, Li, Schwarzenegger, Gibson, Banderas and Lundgren. They may not be award winners but having all those names in one film is pretty damn special.

Most Surprising
Hercules- I love Greek Mythology and Hercules is probably the most well known and I think its time we got a good interpretation which showed him taking on the beasts. The way its looking at the moment with the release of the first trailer I'm happy to say that I think this film could surprise a lot of audiences- also its The Rock and he's bulked up again and he's looking massive. It has a solid cast and what appears to be good effects, keep an eye out for Hercules!
Edge of Tomorrow- Point 1- its Tom Cruise and I really like him. Point 2, he's been making quite a few unique Sci-Fi films like Oblivion which was very good and this kinda has the same feel to it apart from the conventions are a lot more flamboyant and strange which indicates to me that this film is going to be very very interesting. We also see him fight aliens in a mechanical suit over and over again; Its going to be good! the only problem I have is that sometimes Cruise can be predictable but at the moment this film looks the complete opposite.
Maleficent- I don't think that Live action Disney films are ever as good as the animations (Pirates of the Caribbean though?) however I'm finding it very strange that Angelina Jolie has accepted a Disney role, I just didn't think it would happen then again I could say the same about Bruce Willis or Christian Bale. Point is, I genuinely believe Disney have something special in store surrounding this Maleficent character. It looks interesting, visually quite beautiful at the moment and surprisingly it looks as though it could have some intense scenes featuring dragons and tree monsters... This is one to watch and I think it will surprise me as well as the thousand who are thinking because its Disney it won't be very good, perhaps think again.
Best effects
Transformers Age of Extinction- This is the fourth film... every transformer film consists of beautifully designed characters, wonderful explosions and awesome action. Despite its flaws this will definitely receive something for its effects and what's special is that they always introduce something new and luckily for us we get to see transforming dinosaurs and what Bay has described as "the chase from hell" bring it on.
Godzilla- The producers and director knew they needed to pull something out of the bag, they needed to make Godzilla awesome whilst keeping that traditional feel to it unlike in 1998 and with the trailers which have honestly given us a limited view I actually think its safe to say they have produced something special and they are choosing to hide it. With a film like this a big budget as well as a talented crew are needed and I hope they nail it!
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes- Just look at the first one! its been 2 almost 3 years, the technology has definitely improved as well as it being used more widely but Dawn is going to nail it, there's so much detail in these apes that its just sometimes unbelievable. The new has just aired and it is beautiful! literally the effects are magnificent, I wouldn't even care if there was no plot!
Best score (had to be done)
Transformers Age of Extinction- Steve Jablonksy is a complete genius when it comes to the Transformers, he has produced a solid score for all 3 but now he's got the opportunity to create an entire new score that could potentially be a lot darker and gritty. He released a mini snippet of one of the tracks and it is beautiful, its got meaning and its just very peaceful but what I'm excited for is his track that will go beside the undoubtedly awesome action. The score from Dark of the moon still impresses me.
How to train your dragon 2- John Powell is back, we're in safe hands! I'm just hoping he can recreate that fun and exciting theme whilst relating to the magnificent score from the first film. The first films score was beautiful and it fitted the film perfectly so I'm hoping he can do that same here but I'm just relieved the composer didn't change like most sequels do.
Anyway, they are my nominee's! 2014 for film has been awesome so far and I'm glad to say that this is just the start, the summer is going to be fantastic! I will be back with a discussion about Bad Neighbours and then Godzilla, words can't describe my excitement for this film.
I hope you all enjoyed!
what film do you think will top the box office??
Until next time :)
