Man Of Steel

when the first trailer of man of steel came out, I was hooked already and now I have seen it 4 times... oops
it amazes me every time!

unlike the other superman films this primarily focuses on Clark's first day on the job and more on his origin, the film opens with a brilliant scene from krypton which in my opinion has become the best opening to a film, a nice action scene to wake the audience up and alert them that awesomeness is happening, with Russell Crowe as Jor-El, superman's dad he just steals the opening sequence with his cool armour and his acting but I could say the same for Michael Shannon who plays General Zod, more on him later.
basically the film focuses on the struggles of a young Clark Kent and the torment he receives, but his earth dad tells him never to use his powers whereas space dad is like "yeah, screw it"
Clark jumps from job to job saving people in secret with different identities whilst Lois Lane is trying to hunt him after he saved her. After a long search she finds the alien but after finding out the loss and sacrifice Clark has experienced she gives up, she can go back to her normal life...
But that "normal life" will have to wait, General Zod and his crew escape from their prison and threaten the annihilation of planet Earth unless Kal-El reveals him self. It is up to the new hero to decide Earth's fate and put an end to Zod's madness.
Like I said before it is spectacular, a lot of people argued about it because of the amount of destruction but wait a second... didn't you all complain about the lack of action in Superman Returns? even I did it but this film shut me right up, the action in this is visually stunning and brilliant and it clearly shows that Superman has not got the advantage, with all his strength he is facing opponents equal and better than him such as Zod and Faora (who's a bitch) one thing that did catch my attention throughout the film was the destruction of Metropolis, it was devastating and you must consider the amount of civilians that died but I believe it was all needed, this not only sets up the hate I think superman will get in the sequel but it also emphasises the strength of his opponents and himself and the lack of control he has... whilst being thrown into buildings, he literally goes through 4 ouch!
Onto the main antagonist who is General Zod, the protector of Krypton who was bred to protect his planet and its people, with a very wide vocabulary and an awesome voice Michael Shannon executes him beautifully, the fact that he wasn't the most well known actor as well I think put a bit of pressure on him to make this memorable and looking at his filmography he is use to playing the villain but not on this scale, personally I loved him I think he has got that evil tone to him and no offence to him he just looks evil as well. Zod is a lost character in this film and we may actually sympathise with him until he loses it abit, he is out to rebuild his planet but negotiations aren't an option, he would rather wipe the earth and carry out the process of Terra-forming which reveals to be Superman's weakness because he is exposed to the atmosphere of Krypton which he isn't use to at all.
With awesome action scenes and great uses of CGI the film introduces a superman we have only seen in the comics and gives the symbol of hope the Dark Knight pedicure, and it was about time as well, we really needed a good superman film that not only had good CGI but started from the beginning like Batman Begins a good introduction to the man of steel was what we needed, and I think we all needed to see the suffering he has experienced whilst learning to overcome his differences. Supported by legendary actors like Kevin Costner the film gives us a sneak peak of the dark life Clark had and his battle with his true identity, and what Kevin Costner did was completely different compared to his other incarnations, he tried to hide the man of steel and what he does in one particular scene is brilliant but sad because he knew what was going to happen and he confronted it willingly to secure his families safety and the Earth's normality.
Overall the film is spectacular and is a must see! just look at the cast it's just full of amazing actors and actresses who portray their characters brilliantly with enthusiasm, it's not every day you get a phone call from Zack Snyder asking you if you want to play the worlds best known superhero.
Fact: Henry Cavill was playing world of Warcraft when Zack Snyder called, but he missed the call.

I give the film a solid 9/10 because the action is great the acting is superb and the story shows us the pro's and con's of being the man of steel, I cannot wait until the sequel I know for a fact it will focus on the destruction caused by the duel and i think it will focus on Superman redeeming himself, like batman he was hated at one point.
Although the ending was very controversial, I looked at the facts... it had to happen and I believe they took a big risk but in my opinion it paid off and rumours have spread that this will impact the man of steel in the sequel.
well I hope you enjoyed reading
Until Next time :)
