Thor the Dark World

It's abit late and I can explain, so i was suppose to see Thor at 6... screen 2 decided to malfunction, brilliant! so we decided to book the next showing at 7:30 but wait its full so we ended up going to the 8:30 showing.

I have finally seen it! and boy was it good. so many twists and turns that will leave you baffled and scenes that will make you reach for your snotty tissue in your pocket.
I'm trying it a new way from now on and this will be a spoiler free review with only minor details. So lets start!
The story starts with a flash back of the dark elves including Malekith fighting against the Asgardians as they try and reclaim something called Aether which turns matter into dark matter, Malekith intends to use it to send the universe into complete darkness. Bor, Odin's father, fights them all off and transports the Aether out of Malekith's reach.
so that sets the film up and explains the origin of the villain and his aim.
The basic plot is that Jane gets into contact with the mysterious substance and it takes over her in a way, it is revealed that the Aether will kill her, as Thor journeys across the realms to bring peace he realises that the only way to save Jane is to get Malekith to take the Aether out and with Asgard in lock down due to an attack there is only one person who can get him out of Asgard; his treacherous brother Loki. The 3 of them journey to Svartalheim where they hope to save Jane and stop Malekith but obviously all is not what it seems and Thor must fight to protect all 9 realms as they align.

The film is great, and very funny in my opinion it is funnier than the Avengers, but more on that later. we have met all the characters before and they are all there which is good however the 3 warriors are not in the film for that long but they are good especially in the battle on Valaheim. At this point Thor has learnt more and has become a better leader and fighter, Odin still thinks Thor needs more time to become king but his view changes at the end. Loki... well he's as awesome as ever and he has a lot of tricks up his sleeve but I wont give anything away, he seems to protect Thor a lot more in this whereas Thor struggles to let him off the leash, I think Loki is threatened 3 times that if he betrays Thor they will kill him.
What I like is that the human characters have become better, Eric is still affected by the events of the Avengers, Darcy is still Darcy 10x better in this film though and Jane is still coming to terms with Thor's disappearance as she tries to fit in with the real world once more. Now onto the main bad guys, I am not counting Loki because in this he is not bad but he hasn't had a change of heart. The 2 baddies are Malekith portrayed by Christopher Eccleston or as people may recognize him as the 9th Doctor and Kurse who transforms into a very strong beast who beats Thor up and is Malekith's trusted companion. They are both very cool and very evil, Malekith becomes a lot better once he gets what he wants which leads to a great battle against Thor which is both fun and awesome. There is'nt a lot of detail based on why Malekith wants to shove the universe into darkness but i have a feeling it's just what he wants and how it should be in the view of the Dark Elves who have suffered for years since they lost the battle for the Aether. There are some fantastic fights throughout the film and some brillaint scenes, I really like the ships that the dark elves fly around in there really cool and Thor uses one which is even better however one thing i think it lacked was Thor showing the true power of Mjolnir, he doesnt summon a lot of lightning or crush the ground beneath his feet but he does kick ass with it I just wish Thor did something awesome with it.
Back to Loki, he has a lot of fun with Thor in one scene showing off his shapeshifting skills, he turns into Captain America which is just a really funny scene and it is kind of a spoiler as it... foreshadows certain things...

Overall the film is great! Thor is my favourite Avenger and its nice to see him wield Mjolnir again and journey to other realms. The film is funny, full of twists and has some very nice scenes in them and there is the element of balance between the fighting scenes and normal scenes, The CGI is fantastic especially for Asgard which was designed brilliantly and is explored a lot more compared to the first, Costumes have been changed however I prefer Odin's old armor it just looked better i guess but it didn't bother me. One thing i would mention is that all is not what it seems and MAKE SURE YOU STAY TILL THE END!! there are 2, i repeat 2 post credit scenes.
1 leading up to the powerful Thanos and the other leading up to Avengers: Age of Ultron.
I think i would give the film an 8/10
i did see room for improvement but i was very pleased and I enjoyed it so much and what I did like was that it is a very dark film very different to the Avengers and Thor in 2011, I am pretty sure there will be a 3rd which will venture into the mind of Loki who will not appear in Avengers 2, the film leaves some unanswered questions which i think will be revealed in the sequel.
I hope you like my new style and I will be back next wee, this is the first time I've done 2 reviews in 1 days so please enjoy both.
Until Next time :)
