Arrow season 1

Hello again, what are you doing on this post? You've come to read about Arrow? Well your in luck because this post is dedicated to the TV show based around the green arrow from DC comics.
The hit show aired on sky one and took comic book fans by storm and today I'm gunna talk about the show that has become the best program on TV in my opinion. Enjoy :)

The program is based on the character Oliver Queen portrayed brilliantly by Stephen Amell who is deserted on an island after his fathers ship was unknowingly sabotaged. For 5 years Oliver trained with Slade, Shado and briefly with her father, Yao Fei, who owned the hood costume but he was a strange character due to his involvement with the enemy on the island. So many things happen on the island and only bits of it have been explored but more on that later. Oliver returns home with a mission to finish his fathers wish- to end the corruption in Starling city. But whilst Oliver does that, something a lot darker is brewing in the glades involving his family and Oliver's best friends dad, Malcolm Merlyn.

Season 1 consisted of 23 awesome episodes in which we journeyed to the Island to see how Oliver survived although he is there for 5 years we have only seen a few months but season 2 focuses a lot more on the island and new events that occur. In season 1 we see a lot of really cool and iconic enemies like Deadshot, the Dark Archer and the Count plus many more and a few of them appear to be worthy adversaries which produce very awesome and well choreographed fight scenes that are fast paced and brilliant. I could go on and on about Arrow but today I thought I would talk about a few key characters and my favourite scenes.

Oliver Queen - Oliver is a very unique character because we get 2 versions of him, the island version who is slowly learning the values of life and what it means to "survive" and then we get the transformed Oliver who is very well trained at a lot of things. comparing the 2 there is a brilliant contrast, 1 use to be fun and more of a trouble maker whereas the new version is very sophisticated and mysterious in the eyes of his family and I think this trait is a key development in the series because lets face it 5 years on an island will damage you but in Oliver's case its made him a better person (even though killing is bad but eventually he has a change of heart). Now onto Oliver's skills which are just flawless, he is amazing at hand to hand combat which is executed amazingly on the screen, he is an amazing archer who has the ability to shoot small objects without harming anyone and uses his bow whilst in a close fight with speed and magnificent accuracy. A particular scene which shows this off is on a helipad in which he shoots an arrow that attaches this guys hand to his leg- just awesome!
Oliver also displays amazing free running and acrobatic skills and a very high tolerance for pain in one fight against Merlyn he is critically injured by 3 arrows to the back and 3 broken ribs but he continues to fight so no Oliver is not superhuman but he has adapted to become almost superhuman in my opinion I mean not a lot of people can take 3 arrows to the back and recover the next day or take on 12 guys in a narrow corridor.

Malcolm Merlyn- I think with Malcolm it's hard to hate him as a villain, he has suffered with the loss of his wife and that ignited a spark in him to seek revenge so he's not psycho who would commit crimes without reason but saying that he did want to kill thousands of people because he saw them as the scum of Starling city but at points I tended to sympathise with him but he is a very mysterious person and the clever thing with him is that you have no idea what he's been through, how he gained his skills unlike Oliver but every so often you get hints that I think only a true DC fan would recognise. The downside to him is that I think the Arrow should have faced him more often but with the result of season 2 it looks like they may be spending some time together (spoiler) but the fights they do share are fantastic because the simple fact is that Malcolm is better in every way and that creates a brilliant challenge for Oliver to overcome it but multiple times Oliver is defeated but the fighting displayed between these 2 is incredible, well choreographed and very fluent. It's obviously a shock when Oliver finds out that the Dark Archer is Malcolm and it forces him to make a difficult choice to "seemingly" kill him but I knew he would be back because he is not easily defeated and I think something larger is going to happen in season 2 especially after a certain twist. And it's John Barrowman... who can argue with that, I found it was such a surprising role for him to take i always imagined him as the panto/ Torchwood actor who was so use to being the hero but he'd done amazingly, he's sinister, cunning and awesome. One thing I learnt is not to mess with the Merlyn's.

the final confrontation between the dark archer and the Vigilante

There are loads of characters I could talk about and I would love to but it would take forever but at the moment all of the cast and characters are amazing, I really like Felicity she's kinda the humour of the show so that makes it a bit more cheery despite the dark background and mood. Slade is a very interesting character who seems to be developing a lot more and if you know your stuff you would have realised that Slade Wilson is the very well known and deadly enemy known as Deathstroke this aspect however is being built up within season 2 whereas in season 1 we see him more as a mentor to Oliver so you've got to wonder... what goes wrong?

To sum the series up all I have to say is, amazing. it's my favourite program on TV and it makes Monday a lot better because lets face it, no one likes Mondays so its something to look forward to. The stories are brilliant they always incorporate Olivers split life from the Island to reality so thats always nice to see and its brilliantly developed. The villains used are fantastic some are a great take on a modernised version of that character which are designed fantastically and the actors execution of the villain is brilliant, I was worried about some being modernised because would I recognise them? but that worry was gone instantly. As I said before the fighting is absolutely flawless and before I wrap everything I would like to talk about one of my favourite fight scenes.

The undertaking
In this scene Oliver rescues Walter who is being held in a cell by Malcolm, Oliver takes on 18 guys I repeat 18 guys to reach him in a narrow hallway and it is just amazing, screw it here's the link, I'm not gunna say anything else, just watch and enjoy!
