With the release of the new Guardians of the Galaxy trailer I thought I would break it down and give you my views and any speculations I have about the upcoming Marvel film.
In the first few seconds of the trailer we get an introduction of Chris Pratt's character Peter Quill who is the leader of the Guardians, this bit kinda reminds me of Indiana Jones, stealing artefacts ect. In this it becomes clear that this film will have a lot of comedy in it and I'm hoping it doesn't cloud the film's action or story too much.
In this sequence we get a profile of the members of the Guardians, up first is Drax or The Destroyer who is seeking vengeance against Thanos's Admiral called Ronan who killed Drax's family so this character is very angry and he looks great. You may recognise the person portraying Drax... it is of course the wrestler Dave Bautista! and he is huge in this! for me this teases a lot of good action sequences which will show off this characters true strength.
The profile in the left reveals that he is wanted for 22 counts of murder... I'm sure he's a nice guy.
Ah Zoe Saldana... she plays Gamora who is the adopted daughter of Thanos (this film has Thanos written all over it!) but in this she is trying to find a new purpose in life and I'm guessing there will be some chemistry between her and Peter Quill. She's wanted for 12 counts of murder.
Everyone's excited for this little dude... he's a raccoon! it's going to be awesome. He is voiced by Bradley Cooper. Rocket is a very good marksman and a bit of a trouble maker, not necessarily a killer but more of a thief, he is wanted for 12 counts of theft, 14 counts of escape, 7 counts of mercenary activity and 16 counts of Arson, so I think Rocket will bring a lot of fun to the film especially with his associate, Groot. The CGI for the raccoon looks very good and I really want a puss in boots moment with the cute eyes and innocent face.
Groot is voiced by Vin Diesel who is also providing the motion capture. What's different about this character is that he is a sweet and innocent thing but he can be dangerous, if you look at the trailer he is only wanted for 3 accounts of GBH (Grievous bodily harm) so its not like he is a mercenary or a killer so I think he might be the heart of the film and like the comics he may be the smartest, unfortunately in the trailer we never hear him speak or do a lot which is a shame because I really want to know the character more and I don't want Groot undermined but the other characters.
We've already met Peter but he does prefer to be called Star lord... he is the jerk in the film but I think at the end he will find a new purpose and he reminds me a lot of Chris Pines character Kirk in Star Trek. They are both womanisers and trouble makers but when they are pointed in the right direction they become a better person and a more interesting character. Again he doesn't seem like the killing guy because he's wanted for counts of assault, drunkenness and... sex crime. But I think he has a few tricks up his sleeve especially considering the roles he partakes in the comics, he is a very good fighter and strategist I just hope we get to see that. What's also interesting and puzzling is that his profile states he has an enhancement (a translator implant in the neck) I have no idea what that means and honestly I don't know that much about the Guardians so a lot of this is new to me as well, but I think in the comics he is half human which may be interesting.
Groot and Rocket working together should be a lot of fun and it looks like they are starting a riot of some sort but Rocket has guns so it may just be a fight against the enemy unless his skills are put to the test to steal some weapons. Groot looks awesome and his design is very detailed so I'm really excited about his character and the development between the tree like humanoid and the Raccoon.
If you watched Doctor who you may know who this is, if not then this is Karen Gillan who was Matt smiths former companion. She plays Nebula in this who is an associate of Thanos, but her relationship with Gamora will probably be a main focus in the film... maybe best friends or something like that. She teams up with the main villain Ronan. I think we'll get to see some knife/sword action between the 2 girls and hopefully their past will unravel. And yes Karen shaved her head for this role.
You may recognise him from Thor 2, he is the collector and he has been collecting the Infinity gems possibly for Thanos so if he's in it then we may see a few more of the gems or at least a sneak peak of Thanos himself considering a lot of the characters are in some way related to the villain.
If you are familiar with the comics then you may know that this is Peter Quill in his full costume including his awesome mask.

This one is quite interesting because it looks as though Peter Quill has just had something done to him especially if you look at the giant machines around him unless its some sort of futuristic shower... I seriously doubt it
This final shot appears to be Drax being strangled by Ronan, the fight between them will be very good mainly because its obvious that Ronan has super human strength.
Anyway thats it from me today, I'm really excited for this film because its something different, Marvel haven't given us a fully out of space movie unless you count Thor so that gave them the opportunity to create and design some cool characters and publicise the Guardians of the Galaxy, honestly I've only heard of them a few times and read a handful of the comics but I don't know much about them so I think this film will make them bigger and more well known plus I think this film is teasing the final Avengers film.
The Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to cinema's in August (meh a long wait -_- )
