Lone Survivor

Good afternoon people, last night I was suppose to see Monuments men but unfortunately it was fully booked apart from the very first row which is lethal, why would you sit that close.
So instead me and my friend saw Lone Survivor which is based on a true story and it is an amazing true story, I don't know how accurate the film is but I would presume it would be pretty accurate just out of respect.

The film is based on a mission to capture and kill the Taliban leader, Ahmad Shah. When the four man team are unexpectedly seen by wondering Shepard's a heated discussions breaks out whether to release them, kill them or leave them. Abiding by the rules they release the Shepard's and make their way to the top of the mountain seeking extraction- the mission has been aborted. The 4 man squad are quickly surrounded by a small army of Taliban soldiers and a fierce gun fight commences. Only one will survive...

I actually intend on buying the book which is written by the lone survivor. First of all I would like to say that this film is incredible! I did not expect it. The opening is quite fun because you get to see military life and a great introduction to the characters and unfortunately their families as well, in many ways that made the film a hell of a lot sadder and tragic. We get a nice and fun intro to Wahlberg's character, Marcus Lutterell and Taylor Kitsch's character, Michael P. Murphy (Murph) who is looking to buy his wife a horse. The beginning really shows us a lot about the 4 men as well as a brief of the upcoming mission, none of them feared what would happen, it was well planned out by Lieutenant Commander Erik S. Kristensen (Eric Bana) but what is very moving about this film is the representation of the Navy Seals, their brothers in arms and they are best friends- it becomes very moving and touching.

The cast is wonderful, I am a big fan of Taylor K and Mark so it was great to see them together and just overall their portrayal of the seals was amazing, you can tell they did a lot of work to get the look right and the attitude right, this wasn't a film where the characters were unbeatable or cocky, each character suffered pain and thats never easy to act out, they were all professional Seals who followed orders and that added a lot to the realism of the story.
The only other way I can really describe their acting and its going to sound stupid but it felt like I was watching a bunch of Navy Seals, that is how well they executed their role; they felt real.

The action and effects were stunning , the opening gun fight was amazing and difficult to watch because although there were some awesome shots fired and realistic blood the main characters were battered and bruised and shot unfortunately, no one got out of it easily and it only got worse as the Taliban force grew. There is a particular scene which was fantastic to watch visually but I couldn't help but gasp and squint, to escape the Seals jumped off a cliff and rolled down a hill the only thing is there were things in their way so you saw these poor men crash into tree's, rocks, ditches and the hard surface that surrounded them and it wasn't easy to watch especially with the very loud and emphasised sound of bones smashing and things breaking.
I don't want to go into too much detail about the action because what you have to think about is that this actually happened, these seals fought against an army of 20-30 its just sad that it didn't work out for all of them so yes the action is great especially when help finally comes but the story itself is astonishing and the dominating aspect of this film.

something else that is truly amazing and unbelievable is that Marcus is aided by Afghan villagers who protect him against another hoard of Taliban and that was an amazing scene because you never find out why until the end and when you do its beautiful.
There is some humour in the film so its not just doom and gloom which is good, there are some fun scenes with the Afghan villagers but there are some disturbing scenes.

Overall I'd give this a 8.5/10 its an amazing true story that is captured and projected brilliantly, the cast are outstanding, the action is immense and the story itself is breathtaking and unbelievable. I'm glad I saw this instead I really do recommend it.

Thanks for reading
Until Next time :)

Also please say to the end, there is a montage of the soldiers that died on that day, this story and the men who fought should never be forgotten.
