Games that should be films

Hello! what is up people, I am back with another pretty interesting post that I want you to be apart of. I had a conversation about Prince of Persia which led to another discussion about potential movies based on games. I've put together a list of games that I think would make awesome films, I don't know how long it will be so I guess its until I get bored... looks like we're going to be here a while, no! don't close this tab!
Anyway! enjoy :)

Crysis

Crysis is a very good game whatever way you look at it, its fun, it has awesome graphics and the ideas are amazing and that is the reason why it needs to be a film. If they kept the conventions the same or more specifically the suit and the plot it would be awesome! however the CGI would need to be very good to create this apocalyptic world and such a detailed suit along with the aliens but it honestly depends on what Crysis game they based it on but it would make sense to start from the beginning so the world may not need to be as "damned" compared to Crysis 3 but... how awesome would it be to see Prophet run around with a bow! it would be great to see the film start off with the alien invasion and a group of soldiers wearing the Nanosuits defending what they can this could then develop for example "10 years later" where we see the events similar to Crysis 3 start off where there are only a handful left and its time to get rid of the invasion whilst dealing with C.E.L.L. Obviously I haven't worked out the details but a good film is plausible and what's not to love? suits that grant enhanced abilites, stealth, guns, aliens and explosions! you have a summer blockbuster laid out right in front of you. Of course that would all depend on the cast! Like I said it all depended on the game but the main characters would be and next to them are some actors who I think would be pretty cool.
Prophet- Jamie Fox, Idris Elba or Djimon Housou
Alcatraz- you don't see him face.... so any male.
Nomad- Joel Edgerton or Karl Urban
They are just a few ideas but the main important things to get across in the film would be the action and Prophet who is a very interesting character for a number of reasons, people who have played all 3 will know why. There are probably similar films but can you imagine the Nanosuit in a live action Hollywood blockbuster!!

Prototype

Similar to Crysis, I enjoyed this game because of the intense action and the story which is very cool and simple, and I think a lot of films have used it. A guy gets powers and he's trying to find the truth, the difference with this is that he is very violent towards it and he may even be considered a villain in many respects which is why the game worked so well because you were free. For this game to work as a film you would need to make a character who may come across as bad (like Hulk) but is actually a very distraught and lonely person and in many ways he starts to love his abilities until the infection spreads so it would be key to show this lust for power and his love for his world. As well as the plot the graphics need to be amazing to replicate the weirdness of his abilities and also quite gory, the games an 18 for god sake! Then of course you cant forget the infected themselves. This film would essentially be a mash up of World war z and a superhero film. I think it would be very interesting to see these features on the big screen especially when you look at the fast developing special effects which could add to Alex mercers weapons but as long as they had the long bladed sword I'm fine. If they were to consider it they would need to be very careful selecting the Actor for Alex, he's a dark brooding character who seems to enjoy his abilities but is also isolated from the world, the actor would of course need to be quite slim to mirror Alex Mercers physique. I've actually thought of the perfect guy! Colton Haynes from arrow, Roy harper is quite similar to Alex mercer for a number of reasons including their decision to always wear a hoodie; no matter what!!
So if everything is done right I think it could be an awesome film as long as they don't hold back on Alex Mercer's abilities, we want to see his claws, his whip, his sword and his hammerfists. To make this film even more epic we would need to see him go up against the military just like game and that could create some really awesome scenes but the story is also important and I think the story in the game is pretty strong although it could do with some changes, they could even introduce James Heller from Prototype 2; that could be interesting.

Call of Duty

Now! I haven't actually specified which COD would make a good film because I think that depends which one is more popular amongst audiences but I would honestly avoid the more futuristic games and maybe focus on World at War maybe or one that isn't set in 2020. The way I look at COD is a younger version of the Expendables, over the top guns and explosions but a plot that kinda makes sense but I think a COD film from the past would be better as long as it had a more solid story and of course the characters we recognise. I just think it would be nice to have a war film going back into the past being involved in battles some may recognise, the only thing I would be careful of is how they approach it, in all honestly war is sensitive issue so they would need to very careful when approaching certain battles and aspects of the war but... the action would still need to be great! with some cool explosions and some great scenarios the only difference would be that the enemies might be able to aim better but honestly when have film enemies ever been able to aim- they could miss a head shot at 1 metre. I think it would be a great idea as long as you could look at the trailer and say "thats call of duty" before the title comes up we would need to recognise that this is in fact a film based on the worldwide played game. Another reason it should happen is that it will make money, it will make more money with stars in it but at the end of the day it will make a lot of money considering the amount of people that enjoy the Call of Duty games even if its based on your least favourite I guarantee you will see it but then there's the fear of the final outcome. War films are hard to do so it could either be really good or really really bad, COD is already a controversial game so I would expect that the critical response would be mixed but I doubt that would stop most people. What's great about the COD series is that it would allow many sequels to be made (as long as the first one did well) so if everyone liked it; why stop?

Skyrim

DOVAHKIIN! this would without a doubt be an epic film! it would require intense CGI or even motion capture for some of the creatures but it would be amazing to look at if the scenery and backgrounds mirror the game, that means it would need places like Whiterun but I don't think it would be necessary to involve all the locations as well as the missions. This would be a very difficult film to produce mainly because of the scale, do you ignore the other quests or would it be great to touch up on them ever so slightly. The important thing to involve is the Dragonborn and his fight against Alduin which would be amazing as long as Alduin looked like he did in the game, I imagine him to be a similar size to Smaug but the details would have to be amazing to capture this almost "spiky" effect that Smaug lacked. Apart from story line issues I think it could work but it would be very difficult and it would also be hard to tell which characters to include because there are SOO many, do you even bother with the story line?? could they invent their own but keep certain aspects the same so it is familiar. Personally I'd love to see some of the story ideas that could be produced along with the character designs, they are insane! so to see that on the big screen would be amazing!
Plus I love a good mythological film and this is perfect, it has dragons, swords, magic and werewolves it just depends whether it can all fit into 1 film.
So many Skyrim may not work as a film just because there is too much but it would be great to see however there are things that ground it, at the beginning you get to create a character for obvious reasons that wouldn't be possible in the film so they would need to work round that, there's also the problem with the plot and the number of characters sooo... what about a TV show? you could have 20+ episodes (45 minutes) each focusing on certain points in the game whilst the main story slowly builds up; just a thought.

Halo

I know its already a mini movie and potentially a TV series directed by Mr Spielberg but it would still be great to see this as a live action film. Imagine the effects of the worlds, the aliens and Master Chief who I expect would be made up of both CGI and costume (like Iron Man). With a big budget they could make a beautiful world and they could explore so much! I honestly would love to see a film based on the Didact because I thought they were brilliant enemies and they really tested Master Chief, plus the story for halo 4 is brilliant; I loved it! within the whole Halo world they do have a lot of good opportunities to produce a good story as well as an amazing film, they have books, comics and the games, they could gain a lot from all of them to produce one awesome story to amaze Halo fans! one of the only problems I can see is Master Chief himself, the voice has become so memorable and the film could ruin that if they don't get the voice actor, I think fans would be pretty devastated about that.
The main reason I chose halo was because I thought it would make a captivating film, just to look at. They could do a lot with space and the races that we're familiar with and I hope they take that on board when producing the TV series.

Anyway, thats enough blabbering from me today, this post took me ages to do because I kept getting distracted with College work and general stuff. There were loads of other options such as the Force Unleashed and any Tom Clancy game (RIP Tom Clancy!)
So I hope you enjoyed!
Until next time!!!
I will be doing a TMNT discussion and on Saturday I am seeing Captain America, so it should be a great weekend... for me anyway :)
