How I met your mother finished last night and there have been some mixed reviews about it, I know what happens but I haven't watched it and I quite liked what I've heard, it was a nice way to end the show however in many respects it did make the 9 years seem like a waste considering the mother was only introduced in season 8. But the finale offered both happy and sad endings for each characters and unfortunately I felt Ted didn't get the happy ending he deserved although it was sweet, and I think it satisfied a few fans but ultimately it defied the point of the show but... it was a good episode!
anyway, I'm not here to discuss the finale instead I'm here to talk about the entire show because I love it!
Me and my brother first started watching this when we moved house, we didn't have any internet or Virgin so we bought a few of the series and watched them on the X-box, I have no idea what made us do it but I do not regret it at £14 per season.
The reason I like this show so much is that it always makes me smile, you have 5 brilliant characters that are all funny so laughter is guaranteed and I guess it depends on your favourite character, but thats still a difficult decision because they are all pretty awesome!
As well as making me smile the show can also get quite emotional, it can be quite sad and not just with one character but all of them! there is at least one moment for each character that will make you sad and for me it made the show something more than a comedy, the show has meaning. I mean Ted is always rejected which is sad, Barney is never taken seriously despite his flaws he still has a heart and its strange to see him like that, Marshall loses a family member and Lilly usually cries which is very sad and the same goes for Robin. To me its not just a comedy and I love the sensitive side to the show but it wouldn't be the same without the fun scenarios the gang get into and the running gags that continue, more on those soon.
Honestly this is the smartest show I've ever watched and that may sound silly but think about the amount of time and effort put into the show to make it work, from the beginning a few of the cast and crew knew how it was going to end and everything is there for a reason which is pretty cool and like I mentioned the running gags continue and have created some brilliant moments such as:
Doppelgänger
Slap bet
Ducky Tie
The Play Book
High fives
Legen... wait for it... Dary!
Sandwich
These are absolute classics! and they don't just end, most of them run have ran for 9 series, they always get a mention. The running gags aren't the only thing that makes this show a fantastic comedy, like I said all the characters are funny and the trouble they get themselves into create some really funny moments and 80% is relevant to Ted's long story. When Ted gives a lecture to the wrong class and is humiliated... The mother is there or when Ted dates the last girlfriend before the Mother, she may not be there but it was pretty damn funny!
So who is my favourite character... honestly it has to be Ted Mosby, he is the star of the show and he's been on an incredible journey plus he is just a very funny character, he's innocent, fun and I think everyone would love a friend like him who thinks about others before himself. But on a lighter and more cheesy note, I can sometimes relate to him- I wanted to be an architect at one point (until I realised that maths was involved) and I consider myself a caring person, in fact I've been told I'm too caring which I don't believe is possible, plus I wear blazers and I'm awesome; like Ted!
I think his character would be more relatable compared to Barney (200 girls?) because we've all been rejected and perhaps some of us have had a "rocky" relationship history and I think thats why a lot of people favour him because we can sympathise with him more, all we want is for Ted to be happy! and it didn't take long for us to develop that feeling towards him and I guess thats down to the amazing cast and the ingenious way its been constructed.
I was going to talk about a few memorable moments but thats sounds like a good separate post! the cast of HIMYM is just fantastic, they are all brilliant and so are the minor roles from celebrities but who could forget Ranjit, I would love a taxi driver like that!
I'm amazed at how popular this show has become and I say that it is well deserved and I applaud the team who created it and everyone involved, its been a great 9 years so thank you.
No matter how the finale is I will still remember the show as one of my favourites and I hope there are people who enjoyed the finale, I have to wait until it's aired in the UK but I am completely unaware of the situation, I think it was the ending people wanted from the start but its possible that our wants changed as the series developed.
I give the show an awesome 8.5/10, I can't wait to talk about the finale but I need to wait. The thing that lets the show down for me is being aired in the UK in a ridiculous order! other than that, its brilliant. its fun, imaginative and expresses everyday issues perfectly and I love the way it can be serious and funny, I have turned my Tv off laughing or feeling rather sad and thats because of the actors portrayal and the way they execute certain topics, Robin has a very memorable one- some people may know it instantly.
Anyway thats enough blabbering from me for one day, I hope you enjoyed this Blog, please do not lose faith in How I met your mother! go back and remember your favourite episodes or moments, I promise you they weren't for nothing :)
if you have a favourite moment, what is it? who is your favourite character and why? please tell me :) if you dont... then its your loss really :)
Hypothetical high five!
Until Next time!
