Goood afternoon everyone! Last night I watched the new Godzilla film and I'm here to tell you all about it because it was awesome! So! enjoy!
The last time Hollywood had a go at doing Godzilla... they got it terribly wrong, the character himself was wrong and they made him pathetically weak plus the roar was nowhere near the iconic sound millions are use to (however the CGI for 1998 was pretty good) so in 2014 they decided to have another go and let me tell you... it was worth the wait!
The film surrounds Bryan Cranston character who unfortunately loses his wife in a "nuclear accident" he however is convinced that there is something worst at play, for 15 years he dedicates his life to find out what really happened and when it will happen again unfortunately his own son thinks he's going loopy. Its not until he discovers that the government have been experimenting on a cocoon type thing by feeding it radiation... the thing it needs.
MUTO wakes up and begins to cause havoc along with a much larger Muto who is keen to reproduce, Ken Watanabe's character believes the only thing that can stop them is a predator far stronger than any nuclear weapon; Godzilla.
What's good about this film is that its simple despite the scientific terminology its pretty straight forward however there were a lot of things left unknown, I really wanted to know more about the creatures don't get me wrong you find out a lot about them but I wanted to know... why they are so damn big! however it is really interesting how they bring it all to life by involving nuclear energy; that was pretty clever!
The cast in the film was awesome especially Mr Cranston however I wanted more Cranston, I felt his role was cut short but the time he did spend on screen was fantastic, he was convincing, passionate and brilliant as usual. The rest of the cast were great like Ken Watanabe and Aaron Taylor- Johnson who's role in the film was brilliant however... I felt the film focused to much on the human characters instead of Godzilla. Whilst they fought the camera kept switching to the humans and I really wanted it to stay on Godzilla! but like I said the cast were great! I read a lot of reviews who claimed the script was very cheesy and I can see where their coming from but I loved the script, it was cheesy in places but it was nothing terrible and I think the dialogue between Bryan and his son worked the best.
Now lets talk about Godzilla and the other 2 monsters. Ok! so you have 2 Muto's (massive unidentified terrestrial object) which resemble something similar to Cloverfield in many respects apart from their scale is even bigger and that is topped by a female Muto who is the dominant one and she is MASSIVE! unfortunately she lacks wings but its no big loss. They structure and design is pretty awesome and its very clever how they weaponize the nuclear energy they have; they are essential walking EMP's. The effects for them were very good and I loved the fact you saw them in different environments like night and day that allowed you to get a really good look at the detail and a better look at what they actually were, however I felt they had more screen time than the king of monsters himself.
Godzilla was teased a lot especially during the beginning and you don't get a good look until an hour in which I think should have been shortened in all honesty however when you see him rise up and roar it was amazing, we waited an hour to see him and it was totally worth it! his design is fantastic! he stands over 100 meters and is a brutal force of nature. You get some really good looks and some awesome scenes from him especially when he is battling but honestly I wanted more, what they showed was brilliant I just wanted to see more. A specific highlight which I think fans will enjoy is when Godzilla uses his atomic breath! oh my god it is awesome! and they way they did it was very very cool.
The fighting in it was really awesome and the effects were stunning, there was a lot of damage done and they really focused on it. A lot of buildings collapse and people get stepped on... what's not to love! what is quite great is that Godzilla comes out a hero and that was really cool but I would have wanted to see the humans take more of a role in possibly fighting Godzilla instead of accidentally firing at civilians (you're doing it wrong)
Overall the film is just brilliant! the cast is good, the action is great and the CGI is brilliant! this was a brilliant film dedicated to the king of monsters and he would be proud.
Honestly I don't think Godzilla looked fat I think he looked awesome but he was considerably large... he's been hitting the gym obviously.
I really hope they decide to do a sequel because since the Godzilla universe is so wide they can literally do anything like bring in Mothra or even King Ghidorah just imagine the possibilities and if they do I would really like to see this one focused on Godzilla. The hard part is done, introducing the characters, now they can have fun with it.
I hope you enjoyed today's post!
Please go and see this! it was awesome :)
Until next time!!
